Why did you join TEAM MARIA?
I joined Team Maria, along with ten other I-CERV volunteers (Ismaili Community Engaged in Responsible Volunteering). We wanted to be part of a team of people who are passionate about making a difference in our communities, schools, and workplaces – and, we wanted to be part of an organization that shares the Muslim ethics of compassion and sharing.
Why is the Best Buddies program, and its mission, so important?
In these tough economic times, it’s more important than ever to support organizations like Best Buddies. Best Buddies is one of the few organizations in the field that directly affects the lives of individuals living with developmental and intellectual disabilities – and does so at scale, around the world. Moreover, the Best Buddies program supports meaningful service learning and civic engagement for thousands of young people – providing youth with hands-on opportunities to give back.
What motivates you to participate in the Audi Best Buddies Challenge: Hearst Castle?
Riding alongside hundreds of other volunteers around a common cause is going to be such an empowering experience. My six- year-old daughter was so inspired by the mission of Best Buddies that she decided to raise money and walk the 3K! I love the fact that the Best Buddies Challenge truly embraces diversity and nurtures new friendships in an open and inclusive community.
